Finding the right leaders for your AI and data projects can be very hard. AI transformation programmes typically face a very high failure rates. I've spent enough time on the frontlines of data science and AI projects to understand that it is rarely the technical challenges that overwhelm the project. Rather, it is a disjoint between technology and the human context. Leaders in the data and AI space must be able to combine expertise in the technology itself, be it LLMs, Data-as-a-Service or MLOps, with an ability to use that knowledge for commercial purposes. This involves understanding of the business and its culture, its competitive position, its customers and staff (and their priorities), and the financial imperatives facing senior leaders. So while I've spent a lot of time writing and reviewing code, it is always in the understanding that everything around the code matters just as much - ensuring the project is properly prioritised and resourced, financially sustainable, has ambitious but achievable goals and a realistic plan to meet them.
